Hi, welcome to the Conscious Connection podcast. I’m your host, Carol Hasbrouck, local real estate expert on author of the book 10,000 Miles of Miracles, now available on Amazon, a motivational speaker and the show host. On this show, we uncover ways to follow your inner guidance system so you can live your most authentic and fantastic life.

Our mission is to help you learn how to differentiate between your ego thoughts and your true authentic higher self, which can lead you to your life purpose. On new adventures and even to new callings. You can finally live the life you desire and the life you deserve.

I am so honored to have my guest here with me today. Her name is Alyssa Canarelli. She sometimes goes by Lyssa Ray on social and other with friends.

And I met Alyssa about three years ago. She’s a very unique person, which I enjoy very much. And she’s fun and engaging and very deep wisdom as well.

So there’s a really light hearted side of you, Alyssa, as well as a very deep, soul connected version of you or part of you. So I want to welcome you to today’s show. Thank you so much for having me, Carol.

I really appreciate it. I’m really glad to be here. Good, good.

I’m glad to have you. So as I mentioned, we help people discover their inner voice, or if they already know that they have an inner voice, learn how to trust it and live by it more deeply and more regularly. Having known you, I have a feeling you’ve probably had a few events in your life where you either did or didn’t listen to your inner voice.

And I’d love to hear what happened with that when you did listen to your inner voice and also when you did not listen to your inner voice. So tell me about that. Hmm.

I mean, I guess for a little bit of a background. There was a while that I didn’t listen to my inner voice for a long time. I really second guessed myself a lot.

And I could probably say the first time I ever really truly listened to that inner voice was I was invited to this new experience called Cha Dao, which is the oldest ceremonial way of drinking tea. And it’s a beautiful, like meditative space. And they did it down actually at Vanoy park in St. Pete.

And sitting there with myself, I just felt this connection to myself that I had, like suppressed for so long. And it felt like this voice like coming to me to tell me that I could have better things, that I was worthy of something more than I was giving myself. And honestly, that voice truly allowed me like this gift to Set on this path of, like, self love.

I. I didn’t really love myself for a long time. And in that moment, I was truly able to listen to that voice, allow it to be louder than anything else, because usually my own thoughts, you know, my ego or my perception of myself would drown that out. And I feel like that was my first time I ever really, really connected to my spirit.

And it was magical. It gave me this feeling of, like, changing my life around, you know, I was. It was actually three days after I got my dui.

And that was a huge, like a huge pivot in my life. You know, I realized that I really needed to change the decisions that I was making. And that voice really led me on a beautiful journey.

It, you know, had me decide to, like, start, like, changing how I showed up in the world, how I treated people, how I treated myself. And from that moment, I just kind of started doing different things, right? I kind of looked into, oh, maybe I could do yoga, maybe I could do different stuff, spiritual practices, and was trying to figure out, like, what that looked like. You know, at that time, I wasn’t really in any sort of, like, organized religion or anything.

So I was a little confused. How do I attach to, like, that inner, like that inner strength that I wanted, that spirit that I was feeling more of. And I found that, like, really within, like, doing that tea practice, it was.

That was probably the first huge, life altering moment of really listening to that spirit for me. Wonderful, wonderful. So was the voice loud? Was it quiet? Was it gentle? Was it a whisper? Was it scary? No, actually, it was like.

It kind of was soft. And then it kind of like crescendo almost. You know, it was like this soft, like, almost like just slightly opening the door to like, let me know that it’s there, this is safe.

And then the more I just kind of explored it and got curious to what was coming up, it just ended up feeling like this big hug, like this trust within myself that I never had before, that what I was doing in that moment was the right thing. And choosing to listen to this voice when it showed up was going to be safe if I kept listening to it in this way with curiosity, you know. But it was also okay if I had fear around it to just kind of actually be curious.

Kind of like a little kid of like, what is this? What does this feel like? And it just. Yeah, I mean, I even kind of have goosebumps now talking about it. It was such a pivotal moment in my life.

Good, good. Well, the curiosity is huge, right? I Mean, you said even if you. It had fear around it, you were still curious, so you still looked at it.

You. I’m guessing you talked to it or to yourself, actually. I mean, our spirit is within ourselves.

We don’t always know that until we do. And so you. Even though you fear would come up, would you just carry on anyway? I just kind of.

In that moment, honestly, I connected to my breath. It was like this weird trusting of like, okay, just kind of like associating myself. Like, my feet are on the ground.

Like, I’m sitting in this position. There water is in front of me, there’s sand beneath me, me. And I just like, took this deep breath and like, it was almost like my body’s way of allowing me to invite that spirit and like, that trust in more.

Because, like, I think sometimes our mind tends to cloud that. Oh, sure. When we have fear, at least for me, it definitely does.

And so, yeah, it was. It made it easier for me to be more accepting of connecting to that spirit. Good, good.

Well, the. The fear is ego. When we have fear in our heads, which is where it exists, right.

And because we make it all up, it’s false evidence appearing real. We make up the fear, and that’s our ego voice. And it’s needed.

It came from our cave days. You know, our ego is needed for protection, but it gets a little out of hand, and especially when it tries to run the show. So when we can differentiate between that and then the whispers or the gentle or the crescendo voice that you described, that’s when we can tap into some really beautiful things to evolve and change.

Like you said, how we show up in the world and the choices that we make, and then ego pops back in and we. And we look at it and we do whatever we can choose to stay in that ego too. And hopefully the more we hear the messages and the more we follow the messages, the more excited we get when they come.

So you were having a ceremonial tea. You heard a message that said what again? It just was like self love. Like that I was deserving of just truly loving myself.

Honestly, it was the first time I reached my arms out and hugged myself. And I genuinely felt like I tapped into a piece of me that I had never tapped into before. So I was in there all along? Yeah, it was just something I kind of.

Through ego, through fear. I kind of put it in this little box and just chose to let fear run the show for a long time. And so, yeah, when that hug came, it just.

It just was there. I Was like, I felt so safe. Yay.

Yeah. Yeah. So that’s good.

And. And we think out of habit a lot of times too, with the ego. You know, that’s just how we’re used to thinking.

And so your higher self, your inner voice, spoke to you where you could really receive it. I’m guessing. I don’t know because I’m not inside your head, but I’m guessing you heard the inner voice before that particular time.

You just had too much noise going on, too much too many things in your life to be able to receive it, to say, hey, I am worthy of love. I am worthy of hugging myself and receiving this goodness. Right.

Yeah. No, it definitely was way too much noise. Yeah, that’s.

I also very much cared how others perceived me, so I allowed their perceptions to really cloud my head, and I allowed them to make that voice very, very small. Yes. Well, that’s the third voice in our head.

That’s the conditioning voice. So there’s the true voice, which is our inner guidance system. There’s the ego, which is fear based, and then there’s the conditioning voice, which tells us from society who we should be, how we should think, how we should behave, that kind of thing.

So you identified all of them, and I know you’ve been on a path. So this is my first time talking about this for myself. I am in recovery from drugs and alcohol.

I have a little shame around that. So it’s taken a bit for me to come out and talk about that on my podcast. I’ve had a couple of guests who have talked about it, and I feel safe with Alyssa because three years ago, she came up to me and asked me to be her sponsor.

And let me tell you, I’m almost old enough to be her grandmother now. I’m definitely old enough to be her mother. And if I had started having babies really young, I could be her grandmother.

So I was shocked. Here’s this woman that just doesn’t look anything like me. I just was so surprised by you asking me to do that for you.

And of course, I said yes. And we worked together, and I’ve been able to watch you grow over the last three years, and it’s just been tremendous. I think the reason I’m so comfortable talking about this now with you is because I don’t feel like you have a lot of shame around the alcohol and drugs.

Or maybe you do, I don’t know. I have none, actually. You have none? Yes.

I’m very, very vocal about where I’ve come from and how I’VE gotten there, and I feel that it’s beautiful to be able to share that. Yes. And so to help other people realize that might be struggling.

Right. That are out there listening, to help them realize that there is life after all of that. And I happen to know that Alyssa jumped right into the young people’s aspect of our program and took on all kinds of roles because that’s who she is.

Sometimes too many. And you’ve had a lot of fun with that. A lot.

Yeah. So tell us a little bit about those roles that. That have helped you become who you are and love yourself more today.

I think actually, if we kind of circle back to the beginning, the intuition from that, the fear of when you come in, to walk up to someone and say, hey, I’m nervous. You’re a stranger. I want.

Can you walk this path with me? Was definitely one of those moments where I had to listen to that inner, you know, it was louder than the fear. And if I think it wasn’t for that ceremony I did, I wouldn’t have been able to hear that voice, you know, and then it led me into kind of, you know, almost having that voice come up more. I was introduced to a woman who was in Young People aa, and she was doing.

She was wild when I met her, and she looked like she had so much fun. And I think what really brought me into it was I was able to dance sober. And that was something I never thought I was ever going to be able to do ever again.

Just the freedom to be fully me. And with joining those committees and doing that thing, it’s been amazing. I get to go all over the world.

They have one actually in Scotland this year. They’re calling it yearipaw. And you’re able to go over there and do that kind of stuff.

And, you know, it’s phenomenal that we’re able to be a part of this. And I have this community everywhere. And it seems like the more that I just keep trusting that voice and the more I keep doing that, I’m able to show up not only for me, but for other people.

Other people that may have that fear or that shame around what’s going on and letting them know, hey, like, I’m a mirror for you. What you see that I have that you may want, you have it also within you, even outside of recovery. Like, you can take these steps to connect to that spirit and that voice that’s within you.

And I think with young people, that’s what’s been amazing for me, is to show up for These young women that like, are able to wonder, how do I achieve that? How do I get that? How do I come here and get sober despite all of the noise that’s in my head, all the fear that I have. And it’s been transformational. There has been times the noise has gotten loud, especially when I take on too many tasks at once and I feel like I’m not being perfect in all of them.

Yes, I tend to be an overachiever sometimes. So it’s like listening to that inner voice of letting me know I’m human, I’m allowed to have humanness. I’m allowed to not be extremely perfect or, you know, and also it’s when I’ve like leaned into.

What does that look like? If I make a mistake, sometimes it’s actually the mistake I needed. And then I realized, oh, wait, actually, I really didn’t maybe want to go that way in the first place. This is the trajectory I wanted.

And I’ve gotten better at just laughing at myself. You know, I used to speak so mean. And so that inner voice now allows me to be like, hey, I’m proud of you for doing that.

Even though you had fear. Yes. And I remember the self bashing and we all have it to different degrees.

But I do remember that in the beginning with you is that I was trying to help you reframe your thoughts. And I don’t spend a lot of time with you, but when I do see you at meetings and events and things, I can feel the difference. And I don’t hear the self degradation that you used to have.

And I’m sure it comes a lot from doing the steps and being around people that have done the steps and working the program. Is that correct? Yeah, very much so. Yeah.

And I think anchoring into what’s within me, right? Like, because I kept listening to that inner, like voice that was in there and that spirit that was a part of me. It’s almost like I’ve. I now have this moment where even if I get that noise in my head, I take a minute and I’m like, okay, let’s take a deep breath.

Let’s connect the mind, the body, and the spirit. And what do we all want to do? Kind of almost like we’re having like a group conference. Like, we’re not letting the mind be in charge this time.

Okay. We’re not just letting the body be in charge this time. What do we all want to do? How do we all, how does this make us all feel? And, and usually that’s like Been what’s been very, very helpful, you know, especially with being vulnerable, telling people, hey, I’m scared.

Like, I don’t know if I’m making the right decision. I don’t know if I’m doing these things. And also knowing that, like, my first thought doesn’t have to be my last thought with a situation, you know? And also to know that I don’t have to make a decision right away, especially if I’m in fear.

I’ve learned today that I should never make a decision when I’m making it out of fear, because my heart’s not really in it. And so, yeah, I think sobriety has really given me that gift of pause. If you talked to me not even three years ago, I would have told you, I don’t know how to pause.

No, you didn’t. I don’t. You did not know how to pause.

Not at all. And never would I say that. Like, I would look at somebody else and be like, hey, don’t talk about yourself like that.

Or, hey, talk to my friend nicer, you know, because I didn’t even know how to talk to me nicer. And I’m thankful for women that have shown me that in sobriety because it’s really allowed me to see that, like, the difference that happens when I do do that, when I take a pause and listen to what’s really, really inside. Well, and that’s listening to the inner voice.

Right. And we can’t listen if we don’t take the pause. If we just react, if we just respond.

We can’t connect with whatever power it is that’s inside of us that helps us do the right thing for everybody, like you said just a minute ago. So that’s just beautiful. I mean, it’s one of the gifts I’ve received.

The pause. Oh, my gosh. I did not know how to pause.

I thought everybody really wanted to hear what I had to say. And my advice, because I knew better than they did, so why wouldn’t they want to hear what I had to say? And I now know that that is not the case, and I’m okay with that. You know, in fact, the whole world’s better off now that I don’t do that anymore.

So let’s talk about some other times that perhaps your inner voice worked or didn’t work. I know you’re in a fairly new relationship. Not probably in the last year, maybe.

Oh, yeah, it’s been about two. Two years. Two.

A little over two years, yeah. All right, so how did that come about? Well, I was teaching yoga, and he kept showing up. Let’s just say I’m what you say.

I have a bad picker. So my joke is, is that I didn’t pick him. He kept showing up.

So that’s why this one works. Good. But no, all jokes aside, there was a lot of fear in the beginning.

I had a lot of relationships that, you know, due to me and the other person we were. It just did not go well. I was very selfish, very emotionally hostage to most people that I dated.

And in this relationship, it was kind of nervous at first of how I was going to show up. And little by little, when the fear would come up, I would talk to someone about it. I would let them know what I was experiencing.

I didn’t go with my first gut reaction. You know, there were a couple times that I was impulsive, but I was able to circle back around and say, hey, like, now that I’ve had a minute, that really isn’t what I meant or that isn’t how I wanted that to come across. And it’s been, you know, a beautiful experience.

I think that there’s things that we can’t really heal when by ourself. I do think that, you know, we do need to listen to that inner voice and stuff like that. However, I do believe that when.

When we’re in a relationship or a dynamic with somebody else, that you’re able to see other things about yourself that you haven’t before. And so he allowed me to strengthen that inner voice, actually more with the softness that he had, the patience he had with me. I have never met patience.

I’ve never seen someone with actually so much patience. I’m striving to maybe one day achieve that type of patience. Yeah.

Good. And, yeah. We recently got engaged.

Yay. Congratulations. Thank you.

And there was a lot of fear that came up with that, you know, really excited in the moment. Yes. This is amazing.

This is what I’ve dreamed of since I was a little girl. And then I noticed I woke up the next day with so much fear. Am I good enough? Am I enough to be a wife? Are the things from my past worthy for who I am now? And what was beautiful about that was I was able to actually introduce the same practice that I was talking to you about.

I became facilitated in cha dao. And it’s probably the practice the most that allows me to really connect to that inner voice. On days that it’s too cloudy, on days that maybe a pause just isn’t enough, I’m able to really sit there with myself.

And what I was able to find out that I was so excited for this relationship. You deserve this relationship. And it was so.

Thank you. Thank you for that. It was magical.

Like, what I was feeling from it was just. It allowed me to just show up differently. So it was like that next big pivotal moment in, like, being able to listen to that inner voice of, how do I want to show up as a future wife? How do I want to show up as a woman? That’s like, really having this be my partner.

Like, what is that inner voice maybe telling me? And a lot of times it was very selfish when I would go to this inner voice, like, oh, I want this, or how should I show up? Because I want this, or, yes, it would feel like intuition. Like, I just knew that I needed to handle it this way. But this time I kind of just asked some questions.

I kind of just was like, hey, like. Of the inner voice. Yeah.

Like, I’m confused. Like, perfect. How should I show up? What.

What should I. What should I do? What do I want? You know, I spent so much of my life kind of being this chameleon for other people, and it was beautiful to be able to kind of not run the show with my inner voice for, like, the first time, like, kind of allow it to just almost like I had this little, like, door to my heart and I opened it up and the voice just, like, kind of sang to me. That’s beautiful. Yeah.

Yeah, that’s really beautiful. And now a word from our sponsors. You’ve got ideas, stories, expertise.

welcome back. And you mentioned that he’s a mirror to you. I don’t know if you remember, but when you came up to me and asked me three years ago to be your sponsor, you said it was because I shared in my share that the guy I had been dating was a mirror to me.

And of course, I don’t even remember saying that, but I remember you telling me I said that. And so words are powerful. That’s one of the things I’m really reminding myself of constantly is my words are really powerful and I need to pay attention to which ones I put out into the world.

Yeah. And in. In the program that we’re in.

We share. We have our time of sharing, usually about three minutes or less. And sometimes things come out that we have no idea.

We weren’t going to say that that wasn’t what we were thinking of. And of course we know that’s from God or spirit or higher power or whatever you want to call it. And often someone will come up to me or you after the meeting and say, wow, I really needed to hear that.

And you’re like, okay, what’d I say? Because I don’t remember, you know, or ego’s there telling you, oh my God, that was such a bad share. Was I even making any sense? Like, and those are the times where people come up to me most and be like, thank you so much for what you said. I really needed to hear that.

And I’m like, oh, God, yeah. Imagine if here I am selfishly being like, oh, I sounded so silly. Like, I can’t believe I said that out loud.

And then someone’s like, that was the best thing ever. So it’s funny. It’s funny what our voice does to our.

Yes, it is. It really is. And it’s so present, like, it’s always there for me anyway, the voice is always there.

And since I began doing this particular podcast about a year ago, in fact, I looked up my statement and it has been a year this month. So yay, it’s my one year anniversary. Congratulations.

Doing my podcast. Yep. And since I’ve started doing this, I’ve really been paying attention to my inner voice and stopping and asking.

Now I call my inner voice. God asking, show me the way. What’s my next words? What’s my next move? Should I do anything or should I just sit still? And when I listen to that, which is more often than I used to, beautiful, magical things happen for me.

And when I don’t listen to that, then not so great things can happen. Not always. I mean, sometimes it’s just an ordinary day.

But I’ve also had where it wasn’t the voice. Somebody said to me, well, how do you tell the difference between your ego voice and your inner voice? And I say, well, often my inner voice, it’s telling me to do something I don’t want to do. My ego’s always telling me to do stuff I want to do because it’s my ego, by golly, you know, I’m going to direct what it so oftentimes the inner voice is telling me things like, I met with a gentleman today that owns a cold plunge and breath work pulsana is his
name, is the name of the business, and Michael is his name.

Very interesting. And my inner voice is going, you know, you really need to get in that cold tub, Carol. I’m like, no, no, I’m good.

No, I’m good. And it’s, no, you really need to get into that cold tub. And I’m like, okay, well, some other day, you know? So I will.

I’m going back on Friday to do some breath work. And he said, well, just bring your bathing suit. And I said, okay, so we’ll see.

My ego does not want me to go into that cold plunge. And I want. I. It just seems like something to experience.

Have you ever done one? Yes. It’s a great space, actually. I’ve been there a couple times.

Yeah. And I’ve also been to Iceberg Cold plunge. And honestly, see, my inner voice is a little bit different.

Right. Of course, I tend to be the person that’s like, oh, this might cause us pain. Let’s do that.

I need to have the inner voice be like, okay, hold on. Why are we doing this? Are we doing this because we genuinely know this is healthy? There’s so many benefits also to cold plunge. And so are we doing this out of that, or are we doing this because we know it’s going to feel a little, like, pain and, like, suffering a little bit at first, and how do we want to do it? So I understand with desperately needing the pause.

Right. Because I have to be like, okay, hold on. I need to check myself.

Why are we doing this? And usually for me, that’s how I’m able to tell the difference and which is my ego and which isn’t. Because my natural state is to go to wanting to, like, punish myself still. Um, I think not as often, but, you know, I think that I. I endured a lot when I was younger, and some of the choices that I made have put me into situations that caused me to kind of have that same repeating pattern of, like, unworthiness due to decisions I made, due to decisions I didn’t, and due to
your circumstances as well.

My circumstances, yeah. And yes, it’s been a beautiful journey. More often than not.

Does it happen? No, I’m definitely more on the, okay, we’re great. We’re doing good. I do have moments, though, when I’m very fear based, when there’s something that really comes up.

For instance, my partner we just talked about, he lost his job the beginning of this year. They told him the day before Valentine’s Day, hey, we’re letting you Go. We’re going in a different direction.

There’s nothing you did wrong. We’re gonna give you a two week severance. And he showed up and was like, hey.

And I had just bought a house. He had just moved in with me. I had crunched all the numbers, all the financials.

How was this going to work? And immediate fear came in. And for a while, that voice was loud. I was having a really, really hard time taking the pause.

But as loud as it. Thankfully, I think over the times that I have listened to that inner voice, for me, I choose to call spirit, I’ve listened to that spirit. It really, really, like, was helpful in this situation because even though things felt loud, I was able to kind of come back and be like, okay, I just have to get through this day.

Tomorrow’s a new day. And I was kind of doing that, like, each day, which wasn’t something I was. I had kind of gotten away from that, having to have that feeling every day.

And so I kept doing that every day. Okay, okay, just for today, I gotta get through. And also his faith that he had that it’s all gonna work out, it’s fine, we’re gonna be okay.

And that really, really helped me. Like, him anchoring to his inner voice and me being able to witness that allowed me to kind of have faith that my inner voice would show up for me. And it’s worked beautifully.

Like, it’s worked. It’s worked out. We’ve been taken care of.

Things have been going great. He just got some really good news because he’s getting ready to finish up his bachelor’s and apply for law school. So it’s crazy.

Like, imagine if I allowed that ego to come back in and I didn’t listen to that inner voice. Right. I probably would have set a bunch of dumpster fires and burned everything to the ground around me.

Yes. And perhaps he would have moved out. And then, you know, I mean, there’s all kinds of things that could have happened, right? So it’s beautiful.

One of the things we learned is that we’re. We’re taken care of always. Always.

Now, that’s not easy to remember. Another thing we learn is that of the impermanence of life. Like, nothing lasts forever, the good or the bad.

So the really great times, you know, that we’re just so happy. And when the money’s rolling in and the love’s on, you know, we’re on fire with all of that, that isn’t going to last forever. And the crap stuff that’s happening and Somebody loses a job.

You just bought a house. Oh, my God. That isn’t going to last forever.

And so he’s. Thank goodness he had that knowledge and that faith to anchor himself in that truth, because it is a truth. We’re always taken care of.

Everything is happening exactly the way it is supposed to happen for our greater good. Now, that isn’t easy to see when you’re in the middle of the muck. And when we get out of the muck and we look back, we go.

Now, sometimes we don’t know, but often we go, oh, that’s why that happened. And that’s really a beautiful journey, too. And in the program, we call that step three, Right.

Turning it all over to God to know that we’re taken care of. Yeah. And that’s not so easy, but it’s done so good for you.

Brava. That you’ve done that and that things are looking up. And now he can go to law school and.

Yeah. Pursue that journey and who knows what else. Right? Yeah.

It’s been a wild ride, for sure. Yeah. Yeah.

It’s been crazy. But what I do know is that with each step that I take, that it also doesn’t have to look perfect. Right.

That, like, I’m allowed to have humanness around it. So even though this inner voice may be loud to me one day and I may be able to really listen to it and I may be able to move forward, I also know that it’s okay and I don’t have to have shame around the days that I wasn’t so quick to get there. And I think that’s also beauty from the inner voice, spirit that I’ve learned.

Right. Is that I’m allowed to show up messy. I’m allowed to have humanness.

Yeah. And it’s funny. I’m a yoga teacher, and I always say, however you show up is exactly where you’re meant to be.

You’re accepted, you’re loved, you’re held here, your witness here. You are loved and held here. And if only I could say that to myself every day, like.

Well, you could. I’d be unstoppable. Right.

Like, say it to myself, but actually believe it. Right. Believe that inner voice when.

When she says that. So it’s like. Yeah, it’s.

It’s. It’s funny how. How we show up sometimes for others and ourself.

Yeah. Another thing yoga taught me is my teacher used to say all the time and. And stay on your own mat, which means not just in the yoga class, but everywhere.

Like, just Pay attention to your own hula hoop, your own mat, and what you’re doing, and quit looking around and comparing yourself that they’re doing a down dog better than you are. And, you know, it’s, like, hopeless to live life like that. And I feel so much freer now that I have gotten rid of a lot of that.

I haven’t gotten rid of it completely, but I have gotten rid of the comparison. I’m either better or I’m worse. No, I just am.

I just am. And I’m really grateful that I exist and that I am. And my inner voice has definitely helped me along that path.

Tell me about the yoga. How did that all start? And then we’ll wrap it up after we talk about that. Oh, yoga.

I think for me, I just. It was actually around 2020 during COVID There was a lot going on. I work in construction, so I was actually still one of the people that were going to work still every day.

And this place that I used to visit ended up popping up that they were doing yoga for online, which they usually don’t do. They like you to come everything in person. And I was like, hey, I want something fun to do during COVID instead of just kind of sitting here.

I had taken a practice before. There was this girl down at Sukha Life. She does a slow flow class, and it was phenomenal.

She very much just allowed you to be so accepted, like you said, not worrying about what anybody else was doing. And just however you showed up was beautiful. And I decided that I wanted to do that.

I wanted to give back. I wanted to. I wanted to strengthen that practice with being inside myself.

Because with yoga, I was able to move my body, but also quiet my mind kind of at the same time. Right. So it was like, yes, I want to achieve this.

I want to be good. But it was almost like this, like, sweet way of talking to myself of like, hey, you can do this pose, or, hey, come on, let’s try this posture. And.

And, like, wanting to keep trying it again. And it allowed me to kind of, like, slow down. You know, it’s kind of almost like using, like, two sides of my brain, I was able to still think about things that were going on in my life, but the emotion wasn’t there because I was doing something physical.

So I wasn’t able to fully focus on what was causing me a lot of heartache or emotions or anger because I was also doing, like, a movement at the same time. Mm. A powerful.

A yoga movement. So a very powerful connected movement. And, yeah.

So I got my teacher training. I did all through Covid, and then I did not teach or do anything for a long time. I allowed fear to really, really, am I worthy? What am I supposed to look like? I can tend to be a more very out there, speak my mind kind of woman.

And I had this illusion in my head that you had to look this type of way to be a yoga teacher. So I was very fearful. It actually wasn’t until I started my recovery journey that I had.

I remember I had a moment to really try to be like, hey, I really think I want to do this. And not for me, it was weird. It was like, I want to do this because I want to give back.

So I started a donation based. I met at a park and opened it up. And I wanted people to know that they could tap into that with them.

And I just wanted to be a conduit to hold that space for them to tap into maybe something that they previously had and they haven’t tapped into in a while or something they maybe haven’t tapped into at all in a very long time, which circles right back to your T and your crescendo and the hug and loving yourself. So you’re now giving that back in so many ways. And one of the ways, very powerful way that you’re doing that is through the yoga teaching and the Yoga practice.

So I just. I honor you. I love you.

I really enjoy watching you evolve and develop into this beautiful, dignified woman who loves herself. Most of the time, right? Yes. Most of the time.

None of us. None of us. I think maybe Dr. Pulley and the Dalai Lama are the only two.

I know that maybe Deepak Chopra does, too. Who knows? But we do a pretty good job of it compared to where we came from. So if you’re listening out there and you have an addiction to anything, because I believe people all over the world are recovering from something.

Yeah, everyone is recovering from something. Could be grief that you’re recovering from. It could be any kind of an addiction, self imposed isolation.

If you’re out there and you are, please reach out to myself or to Alyssa. She’ll give whatever contact information she wants to give here in a minute. And just know it doesn’t have to be that way.

You don’t have to feel that way anymore. And there’s a really gentle yet powerful way of coming back to loving yourself enough that you don’t need that outer substance to make you feel better. Because that’s all it is.

I mean, I was addicted to men, too. Yeah, you know, there were so. And there’s shopping, there’s gambling, there’s all kinds of addictions.

And just know that. That if you’re struggling with that, we’d love to just hear from you. No obligation, no nothing.

Just give us a call or an email and we’d be happy to talk. That’s all right. Yeah, just for sure.

Just to connect. So. It has been so wonderful having you with me today, Alyssa.
